Description
Page of the Hours of Virgin, Matins, Psalm 94. Occurs before the three nocturnes and begins on the fifth word of the psalm. Written in Gothic script and rubricated with initials in gold, red, blue and white. Same colors used in the line fillings, which are floral in nature.
S’s only in the modern style at the end of words. Ampersands written as et, not as & or the Tironian version. Recto and verso have 14 lines of text. Prayers to the Virgin Mary written in a smaller script and separated from the rest of the text. Between verses 4 and 5 at the bottom of the recto, short phrase added, possibly "Venite adoremus".
Border on the outer edge and made of gold bars adorned with flowers and remnants of rinceaux interleaved with red and blue diamonds. Red diamonds have gold styling while the blue diamonds have white styling. Border mirrored on the verso with the red and blue paneling reversed. White and gold decorations unique to each side. Some of the blue pigment on the verso has been smeared.
