Description

This entry provides a complete description of a late 15th century French Book of Hours to be offered for sale. Research conducted through the Schoenberg Manuscript Database and Seymour DeRicci's Census of Medieval Manuscripts in the United States and Canada indicates that this manuscript was purchased by Otto Ege on November 24, 1936. The description contained in this entry furthermore makes it clear that the manuscript in question is FOL 47. Significant features of the description include the size of the pages; the number of lines per page; rubrication in French; "lateral illuminated floral borders, some divided into geometrical patterns"; the presence of "grotesques, birds, and other animals" in the decorations; and "numerous other illuminated capitals and line fillers throughout."
